Yogyakarta, 10 August 2025 – The Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) of Universitas Gadjah Mada held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of Building C, marking the beginning of a new phase in strengthening educational facilities and infrastructure as well as advancing scholarship in the humanities. The event was attended by the Dean of FIB, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, S.Sos., M.Si., Rector of UGM, Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, M.Med.Ed., Sp.OG(K)., Ph.D., along with other university and faculty leaders.
The program began with a joint prayer, followed by a speech from the Dean of FIB. In his remarks, Prof. Setiadi stated that plans to improve FIB’s facilities and infrastructure had been initiated since 2015. Now, the construction has entered its second phase, prioritizing the development of Building C. “This construction is something monumental. We will have facilities that are highly compatible with FIB’s vision and mission for the future. This building will become a center for the development of the humanities in the digital era, including strengthening the field of visual communication design,” he said.
Building C will be equipped with a range of modern facilities such as co-working spaces, a library, and study rooms dedicated to student development. It is expected to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and create an innovative academic atmosphere.
Meanwhile, in her speech, UGM Rector Prof. Ova Emilia expressed her appreciation for FIB’s achievements. “Dreams are important because they can be realized. This is proof of FIB’s outstanding internal management. UGM leadership is very pleased with the presence of new facilities that can boost enthusiasm. We hope this building will become a cultural hub that brings pride not only at the national level but also globally,” she said.
She emphasized that this construction is not merely about creating a physical building, but also about realizing aspirations for the glory of UGM and the younger generation. By serving as an inclusive center for academic and cultural activities (SDG 11), Building C is expected to strengthen UGM’s role as a pioneer in education, cultural preservation, and innovation within society.
The groundbreaking was carried out by Prof. Dr. Setiadi, Prof. dr. Ova Emilia, and Prof. Hendrokumoro, accompanied by musical performances from Gama Sutra of the Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture Study Program. The event concluded with a joint prayer and a photo session, marking the start of a construction journey that carries great hopes for the future of the humanities at UGM.
