Reviving the Spirit of Cultural Arts and Education in Jatingarang: Humanities student becomes Coordinator of “Jatingarang Fest”

Yogyakarta, 30/1/2025 – Jatingarang Fest is a joint program with the theme Steps of Citizens, Preserve Beloved Culture which was held on Sunday, November 17, 2024 in Padukuhan Jatingarang Lor, Nanggulan, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta. Carrying the spirit of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially on points (3) health and welfare, (4) quality education, and (2) food security. This event is an effort to increase residents’ awareness of healthy living, education, and social resilience. This program was initiated by the UGM SCS-CEL team Period 3 Jatingarang Lor Sub Unit with field supervisor, Dr. drh. Yuli Purwandari Kristianingrum, MP, and in collaboration with the local rismas.

Coordinated by Bulan Churniati from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (21/477380/SA/20963), the event consisted of Dhiaksa Adhi, Zahra Nabila, Andreas Niko from FKKMK, Austien Elsa from Pharmacy, Tenriola Ramizah from FISIPOL, and Adelia Rizqa from Psychology. The event included gymnastic activities, healthy walking or eco-trekking, children’s Gambang Suling dance performances and Banyumas Massatria dance, tourism education, anti-hoax, and food security which are a combination of several different work programs, especially interdisciplinary.

In the anti-hoax education, participants were invited to understand how to sort out the right information in a digital era full of fake news. The food security material emphasized the importance of applying simple tips for small, independent farms. Meanwhile, tourism education provides insights related to regional potential that can be developed. The event was also enlivened with dance entertainment and energizing door prizes. A total of 26 prizes were prepared thanks to well-planned management and sponsor support, with the grand prizes being standing fans, irons and premium pots. The excitement and joy was evident when the grand prize winners were announced, which was greeted with cheers from the community. Enthusiastic community participation added to the festivities, with more than a hundred people attending.

Overall, Jatingarang Fest went smoothly and was full of warmth. “It was unexpected that the enthusiasm of the residents exceeded our expectations, which initially planned for only one padukuhan, but it turned out that many from other padukuhans wanted to participate,” said Bulan as the person in charge of Jatingarang Fest. The success of this event shows the spirit of gotong royong and strong collaboration between KKN students, rismas, and residents of Jatingarang Lor, leading to the development of a more prosperous and sustainable community.

Yogyakarta, December 20, 2024 – The Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Period IV Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) Ngargoyoso “Menuju Lawu” team was officially dispatched to the service locations in Kemuning Village and Berjo Village, Ngargoyoso District, Karanganyar Regency. The team will run the service program for 50 days.

Preparations for departure began early in the morning at 07.30 WIB at the UGM Fire Brigade Post. Students were seen busy loading equipment such as suitcases, backpacks, and other needs to support activities in the field. Before leaving, all team members underwent a final briefing to ensure coordination and readiness.

Among the team members, there are two students from the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM, namely I Putu Adhimas Radiansyah Aryawan (Archaeology Study Program, class of 2022) and Khirana Marwadika (History Study Program, class of 2022). Their presence is expected to contribute to the optimization of village potential and community empowerment programs based on Smart Village and Eco Tourism in both villages.

The trip from Yogyakarta to Kemuning Village and Berjo Village took about 2.5 hours. Arriving at the location, the team immediately conducted a briefing and cleaned up to start the service. For the next 50 days, the KKN-PPM UGM team will try to help the local community in developing the village potential while creating a sustainable empowerment model.

With the spirit of togetherness, the team hopes that this program will not only provide tangible benefits to the people of Kemuning Village and Berjo Village but also become a valuable experience for UGM students in implementing the knowledge they have learned in college.

The Faculty of Cultural Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada (FIB UGM) held a release ceremony for staffing education personnel, Mr. Suwanto, on Monday, December 30, 2024. The event took place solemnly in the Auditorium of Building R. Soegondo 709 from 09.00 to 12.00 WIB.

The event began with remarks from representatives of faculty leaders, who expressed their gratitude for Mr. Suwanto’s dedication over the years. In his speech, the Dean of FIB UGM appreciated his contribution and hard work that had supported various faculty programs with full responsibility.

Furthermore, an emotional atmosphere was felt when Mr. Suwanto gave his parting words. He expressed his gratitude and happiness for the opportunity he had been given to be part of the big family of FIB UGM.

The event continued with the handover of mementos as a form of respect and appreciation for Mr. Suwanto’s service. The presentation was made by representatives of the education staff and faculty leaders.

The event ended with a group photo and social gathering, where all participants offered their prayers and best wishes for Mr. Suwanto’s next journey in life. The ceremony was an important moment to commemorate Mr. Suwanto’s service as well as to strengthen family ties within the Faculty.

Yogyakarta, 21st of November 2024 – In the spirit of sharing happiness and social care, Kalingga (Keluarga Linguistik Gadjah Mada) Aksosmas (Social Action & Society) division is proud to report the success of the Happy Friday program. Through this program, the donations collected have been distributed to the brothers and sisters at Yayasan Sayap Ibu DIY Branch, located at Jl. Rajawali No. 3, Pringwulung, Condongcatur, Sleman, Yogyakarta.

The donations that have been received and distributed are:

  1. 52 clothes (shirts and pants)
  2. 1 shoulder bag
  3. Food packages, converted from cash received, including pampers, milk, baby food, snacks, and eggs.

Kalingga would like to thank all those who have supported this program through donations and encouragement. Without the contributions of the Kalinggaes, this program would not have been possible.

“We hope that this assistance can bring benefits and happiness to those in need,” said a representative of Kalingga Aksosmas Branch.

With the success of this program, Kalingga continues to be committed to making social activities an important part of the community, bringing positive impacts to the surrounding community. Thank you for being part of this act of kindness!

POTMA FIB UGM Webinar: Together with Campus and Parents for Early Detection of Student Mental Health Disorders

Yogyakarta, November 23, 2024 – In an effort to support student mental health, the Association of Parents of Students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (POTMA FIB UGM) held a webinar entitled “The Role of Campus and Parents in Early Detection and Management of Student Mental Health Disorders”. This webinar was held online through the Zoom platform, attended by hundreds of participants from among parents of FIB UGM students.

The event was opened with remarks from Prof. Dr. Setiadi, M.Si., Dean of FIB UGM, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between campus and parents in dealing with student mental health. Chairman of POTMA FIB UGM, Rian Seriritta, A.Md., also expressed his appreciation to the participants for their active role in this activity.

The webinar presented inspiring speakers:

  1. Diana Setiyawati, S.Psi., MHSc., PH.D., Psychologist, Head of Center for Public Mental Health UGM, who discussed the importance of early detection to prevent mental disorders from becoming more serious.
  2. Dr. Nur Saktiningrum, S.S., M.Hum, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty, who outlined campus programs and services in supporting student mental health.
  3. Hannisa Arina Zahra, S.Psi, a mental health survivor and activist, who shared her personal experience and provided guidance for parents to be the best support for their children.

Guided by moderator Nugraheni Dwi Budiarti, S.Pt., M.Pd., the webinar was interactive, with a question and answer session that explored the strategic role of parents in recognizing the early signs of mental health disorders.

This event is expected to strengthen the synergy between parents and educational institutions in creating an environment that supports students’ mental well-being. The potential for further collaboration was also suggested by several participants to increase the positive impact of this initiative. With the success of this webinar, FIB UGM and POTMA continue to be committed to supporting student mental health in order to create a resilient and productive young generation.
