A Slice of France at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences
The French Literature Students Association (HMSP) is an organization for the students of the Romance languages program intended to facilitate students in developing their non-academic abilities. Management of this organization is handled by students in their first and second year. Currently the HMSP is headed by Cinantyan Punjung Prapatti (French literature 2009).
For 2011 HMSP had two main activities: a French-language drama performance and a European culture festival. The drama, titled Trésor: Le Théâtre et La Danse aux Valeurs de l’Or was performed on 20 May 2011 in collaboration with Le Centre Culturel Français de Yogyakarta (France–Indonesia Center). This event, held for the public, combined dance and drama to tell the story of Red Riding Hood and combined it with the stories of Snow White and the Three Little Pigs. From the enthusiasm of the audience, which filled the FIC auditorium, the performance was a success.
The second activity, the European Culture Festival (also known as Cuiciné) was held between 5 and 7 Desember 2011. Cuiciné included film and culinary festivals as well as information on French, Italian, and Spanish cultures. Furthermore, at this event there was a French-speaking competition for Senior High School/Vocational School students from throughout Yogyakarta.
Aside from its arts and culture activities, the HMSP provides students of the Romance language program with a place to develop their journalistic abilities. This is manifested in their management of the bilingual Indonesian-French bulletin Cogito. This bulletin is free and available to the general public.
The HMSP actively participates in events organized by the Student Body of the Faculty of Cultural Studies. During the 2011 edition of SASPORTE, an inter-department sports competition, HMSP placed second in men’s and women’s futsal.
Just recently HMSP received national prestige at the 2011 Francophonie Week, organized by the French Embassy to Indonesia. Adriana Asrini (French literature 2008) won this competition with two other finalists (from UNJ and UNY) and received a one-month summer trip to France.
Bon courage!
