Visit of SMAN 2 Cikarang Pusat to Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Welcomed Festive

Yogyakarta, November 6, 2024 – Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) received a visit from 280 students and accompanying teachers from SMAN 2 Cikarang Pusat. The event took place in the Auditorium on the 7th floor of Soegondo Building, and was warmly welcomed by representatives of undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as staff of Public Relations and Cooperation of FIB UGM.

In his speech, one of the teacher representatives expressed her gratitude for the friendly and enthusiastic welcome. “This visit is very impressive. We feel welcomed with a warm and pleasant atmosphere,” she said.

The question and answer session was interactive, discussing various aspects of the entry process to UGM. The students asked about various things, such as preparation for entrance tests, special portfolios, and the effect of school accreditation or alumni on graduation. The representative of the Faculty of Arts UGM explained that no special portfolio is needed, school accreditation does not affect the chances, and influential alumni are not a determining factor for graduation.

In addition, the discussion also covered the professions and careers of graduates, alumni who have successfully pursued careers in various fields, and how the faculty shapes students to face future professional challenges.

The event was closed with the handover of souvenirs, group photos, and casual conversations between students and faculty members that strengthened the atmosphere of intimacy. This activity is expected to motivate students to continue their studies to a higher level, especially at the Faculty of Humanities UGM.

Festival Bulan Bahasa is one of the five main series of Bulan Bahasa UGM 2024. The contents of the Festival Bulan Bahasa itself include a “behind-the-scenes of Bulan Bahasa  We Tell Stories” exhibition, an interactive “Discover Me” exhibition, an exhibition of the 2023 winners’ works, then Suar Memoar to write down all hopes for visitors who come. In addition to the exhibition, there is also a reading corner and visitors can make scrapbooks or zine creations for free here. The highlight of the Festival this time is the performances, such as modern dance, poetry musicalization, and also bands from various circles.

In addition, Bulan Bahasa also still opens competitions for students, college students, and the public, including short story creation, poetry creation, poetry reading, and essays. After this, there will be a workshop with one of the writers whose book has been made into a movie, and the culmination of the Bulan Bahasa event is the performance of Teater Kami Bercerita which presents Seno Adi Gumira’s work with the title “Dilarang Beranyi di Kamar Mandi” on November 29, 2024, at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta. Yogyakarta, October 30, 2024 – Faculty of Cultural Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed a visit from 270 students from MAN Bondowoso and SMAN 8 Garut in the Auditorium of Soegondo Building 7th Floor. This event was an opportunity for the students to get to know more about academic life at UGM and opportunities to study at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB).

The event was opened with remarks from the Faculty’s Public Relations and Cooperation team, which consists of five unit staff, including part-timer students. In the question and answer session, students and teachers were enthusiastic with many questions, ranging from the benefits and opportunities of studying at FIB, tips on building confidence to enter top universities, to the percentage of new student admissions in each pathway.

The students also asked about broader issues, such as policies related to UKT (Single Tuition Fee), campus response to mental health, and efforts to handle sexual violence cases. Public Relations gave a comprehensive explanation, emphasizing UGM’s commitment to providing a safe and supportive learning environment.

The event ended with the handover of souvenirs from each school, a group photo session, and a spirited yell match between MAN Bondowoso and SMAN 8 Garut, concluding an inspiring and fun-filled visit.

Visit of SMAN 1 Pagak & SMAN 1 Glenmore to Faculty of Humanities UGM: Absorbing Knowledge and Inspiration

Yogyakarta, October 17, 2024 – Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again welcomed educational visits from two schools, namely SMAN 1 Pagak, Malang, and SMAN 1 Glenmore, Banyuwangi. The event that took place in the Auditorium of Soegondo Building was attended by students and accompanying teachers, with the aim of introducing the world of higher education, especially UGM and Faculty of Cultural Sciences.

In his speech, the representative of SMAN 1 Pagak, Mr. Wawan Harjito, explained that the vision and mission of this visit was to explore as much information as possible about Universitas Gadjah Mada, especially the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, in order to give insight to the students about the study programs offered. Meanwhile, a representative from SMAN 1 Glenmore, Mr. Satrio Hario Utomo, mentioned that UGM is a top university, not only in Yogyakarta and Indonesia, but also in the world. He hoped the students would be inspired to continue their education at this renowned university.

What made this visit special was the presence of lecturers and student representatives from the Korean Language and Culture Study Program at Faculty of Arts UGM, who gave a presentation on the introduction of the study program to the students. In their presentation, they explained the curriculum, academic activities, and opportunities that students can get while studying in this study program.

The Q&A session was interactive, with students asking questions about career prospects for graduates of the Korean Language and Culture program. One of the questions asked was what percentage of graduates of this study program managed to get a job. The faculty explained that all graduates are required to fill out a survey to report their workplace, so that the faculty can monitor the progress of graduates. “Alhamdulillah, the results are satisfactory,” replied Mr. Suray Agung Nugroho, S.S, M.A, Ph.D as the lecturer who presented the material. He emphasized that many graduates have successfully entered various job sectors.

Students also asked how to balance language and culture learning, as well as opportunities to study in Korea through student exchange programs. The study program explained that the balance between language and cultural studies is taught comprehensively, and there are many opportunities to join exchange programs in Korea for outstanding students.

The event ended with a group photo and expressions of gratitude from the students and teachers who felt the visit provided valuable insights into their educational future. This visit is expected to motivate the students to continue their higher education and open their minds about the various study opportunities offered by the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM.

MAN 2 Cianjur visit to Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM: Enriching Knowledge and Preserving Culture

Yogyakarta, October 15, 2024 – Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) received a visit from MAN 2 Cianjur on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. The event took place in the Auditorium of Soegondo Building, FIB UGM, attended by students and accompanying teachers from MAN 2 Cianjur. The activity began with an official opening, followed by the presentation of the vision and mission of the visit by the school. They expressed the hope that this visit can provide a deeper insight into the role of universities, especially UGM, in the field of cultural sciences and the contribution of students in society. 

After that, the participants were treated to a video that introduced Universitas Gadjah Mada and the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. To enliven the atmosphere, the event continued with a quiz session about the information that had been conveyed in the video, which was greeted enthusiastically by the students. They actively answered the questions posed and competed healthily in a spirited atmosphere. Continuing to the main session, the students received a more in-depth presentation about FIB UGM. The question and answer session was interactive, where the students did not hesitate to ask about student life at FIB UGM, how they are involved in cultural preservation, and how students maintain religious values in the campus environment.

Uniquely, after the official event ended, the students carried out an assignment from their teacher to interview students of FIB UGM. The questions asked revolved around the role of students in preserving culture and religion. This task aims to make students not only listen to the material, but also directly interact with students to get a more real and personal perspective, and MAN 2 Cianjur gave a token of gratitude to the speakers for the knowledge and experience that had been shared. This activity not only provides academic insights to students, but also instills the importance of cultural and religious preservation in everyday life, especially among the younger generation.
