ARABIC LITERATURE UGM & DOMPET DHUAFA YOGYAKARTA ORGANIZE TALK SHOW OF PALESTINIAN STRUGGLE

In the midst of the raging conflict, the Palestinian people continue to struggle tirelessly to survive. To find out more about their condition and struggle, students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada attended a TALK SHOW entitled “The Struggle of Palestinian Women and Children Amidst the Israeli Onslaught” with FATMA ALGHUSAIN as the guest speaker. She is the Executive Director of Amna Care Fund, an organization that helps the Palestinian people, especially women and children. “I have experienced four wars while living in Palestine. But this one is not a war. This is genocide!” She said. Mrs Fatma Alghusain also explained the current situation in Palestine.


This activity will be held on Tuesday, 26 March 2024 at 11.00 – 13.00 WIB at Soegondo Building 709 for participants who can attend offline, and via the zoom link for participants who can only follow the event remotely or online. As a form of solidarity for the freedom of the Palestinian people, talk show participants can also prepare their best infaq. In addition to students, the event was also attended by the Head of Arabic Literature Study Programme UGM, Dr Zulfa Purnamawati, S. S., M.Hum. and Mr Imam Hidayat, S.Pd.I., M.Pd. as a representative of Dompet Dhuafa Yogyakarta. After the Q&A session ended, the Head of Arabic Literature UGM handed over souvenirs to the speakers. With this cooperation between the Arabic literature programme and the Dompet Dhuafa, it is hoped that it can make people aware of the current conditions in Palestine.

27th of January 2024 – The “Infinite Learning – Web Development” program was designed to facilitate access to the quality education by providing learning experiences that reflect the actual situation in the industry. By encouraging participants to form challenge groups, this program not only aimed to produce developers with technical skills, but also encouraged collaboration and active participation in various industrial projects. Through the application of design thinking and SCRUM project management concepts, this program implicitly promoted responsible consumption and production practices, while forming individuals with adaptative, collaborative and communicative skills.

Intensive mentoring by two types of mentors, individual mentors and group mentors, played an important role in creating an inclusive and sustainable learning environment. With a focus on building individual skills, individual mentors provided guidance on participants’ performance, skills, self-motivation, and learning strategies. Meanwhile, the group mentor focused on group performance, research guidance, challenge project management, and application development. These two types of mentors worked together to build a strong partnership between mentor and participant, creating an environment that supports participants in facing the complex challenges of the future in the web development industry.

From Campus to Community: Arabic Literature Students of Gadjah Mada University Intern at Dompet Dhuafa

Yogyakarta, 27th of January 2024 – In order to practice knowledge and serve society, several students of the Arabic Literature Study Program, Department of Language and Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University, had completed an internship program at Dompet Dhuafa. This internship program was an opportunity for students to go directly into the field and contribute to various community empowerment programs initiated by Dompet Dhuafa.

Dompet Dhuafa’s agenda which involved interns included collecting and processing poverty data, distributing aid to people in need, education about health, economic empowerment, and educational outreach. Internship students were also provided with experience in collecting donations and finding donors to support Dompet Dhuafa programs.

The internship program at Dompet Dhuafa was a concrete example of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely education, research and community service. With this program, it was hoped that UGM Arabic Literature students can become agents of social change who were competent, have integrity and care for others.

A group of students from the Arabic Literature Study Program, Department of Language and Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FIB UGM), has successfully completed an internship program at the regional television station, ADiTV (Arah Dunia Televisi). Gaining invaluable experience, the students were equipped with various aspects of the television industry.

Throughout the internship period, the students were taught and directly involved in the production process of a television program. They were given the opportunity to try various roles in the production process, such as brainstorming ideas and scripts, operating equipment, video editing, and presenting in front of the camera as program hosts. During their activities, the students were mentored by experienced professionals in their respective fields. At the end of the internship, the students were tasked with producing a news program titled “Al-Akhbar.”

In their roles, the students acted as script translators and news presenters. After the production process, the program will be broadcast on ADiTV. The airing of the Al-Akhbar program is expected to provide insights and benefits to its audience. Moreover, participants in this internship program are also encouraged to apply the knowledge gained during the internship to build a career path in the television industry and to spread positive impacts through broadcasting media.

The Arabic Literature Study Program, Department of Language and Literature, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, has sent students from the 2020 cohort to participate in internship activities as part of the Independent Learning-Campus Independent (MBKM) program for the Odd Semester of the Academic Year 2023/2024. A total of nine students completed their internship/work practice at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Yogyakarta, one of the internship partners in this program. The program lasted for three months, starting from the beginning of September until the end of November 2023.

During the internship program, students had the opportunity to expand their knowledge related to regulations, policies, and work practices associated with this religious institution. Additionally, they could develop the soft skills and hard skills needed to face the future job market. In the implementation of the internship program at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Yogyakarta, students were assigned to several sections, namely the Islamic Religious Education Section, Diniyah and Islamic Boarding School Education Section, Madrasah Education Section, and Islamic Community Guidance Section.

Generally, students were given administrative tasks according to the section where they were assigned. Beyond administrative matters, they were also asked to participate in the implementation of various major activities organized by each section at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Yogyakarta.

Major activities included participating in Quranic recitation competitions at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels organized by the Islamic Religious Education Section; the FASI XII event at the district level in Yogyakarta and a series of activities to celebrate the day of Islamic students organized by the Diniyah and Islamic Boarding School Education Section; Monitoring and Evaluation activities at Madrasah and archival activities organized by the Madrasah Education Section; and Technical Guidance for BP4 and FGD Mosque Caretakers and Indonesian Mosque Council at the city level in Yogyakarta City organized by the Islamic Community Guidance Section.
