Yogyakarta, 24/2/2025 – In the series of anniversary of Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), a scientific oration and public lecture titled ‘Welcoming Eight Decades of Work to Build World Civilisation’ was held on 24 February 2025. The event took place at Soegondo Auditorium, gathering academics, students, and culture lovers to discuss the important role of education in building peace and resolving conflicts.

The event began with a speech from the Vice Rector for Education and Teaching, Prof. Dr Wening Udasmoro, S.S., M.Hum., DEA. In her speech, she emphasised the importance of education as a tool for conflict resolution and cultural diplomacy as she did in her researches. After the speech, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr Setiadi, M.Si., took the stage to explain the Faculty’s role in the humanities. Yogyakarta, 22 February 2025 – Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a festive Family Day event as part of its 79th Anniversary celebrations. The event aimed to strengthen the spirit of togetherness among faculty members, students, and their families, while promoting health and well-being, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to affordable medicines and health for all.

The day began with an invigorating ‘health walk’, which attracted participants of all ages. Families gather early in the morning, ready to enjoy the beauty of the campus neighbourhood while getting some physical activity. The initiative not only encouraged healthy lifestyles but also emphasised the importance of affordable health resources, including medicines, which are crucial for maintaining well-being.

After the healthy walk, participants joined in a lively ‘gymnastics’ session led by professional instructors. The exercise was designed to be inclusive, allowing everyone to participate regardless of their fitness level. The activity highlighted the importance of regular physical activity in preventing health problems and promoting healthy communities, which are key aspects of the SDGs.

Entertainment was provided by ‘Karawitan Dharma Wanita FIB’ and ‘Sastra Oebah,’ which featured traditional music and dance performances. These cultural performances not only entertain the audience but also strengthen the faculty’s cultural identity and promote appreciation of local arts. This kind of cultural engagement is essential for community cohesion and well-being.

In addition to the entertainment, the event also featured a health check booth from POSBINDU, where participants could receive free health checks. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular health check-ups and access to affordable healthcare, which are essential components of the SDGs. In addition, awards for the volleyball and badminton competitions held earlier were also handed out. The event was attended by the Regent of Siak Regency, Riau, as well as various stakeholders from the public and academic sectors. The workshop focused on the development of culture, tourism, and creative economy by utilising local potential to drive economic growth and development.

The workshop began with opening remarks from the Regent of Siak, who emphasised the importance of education in improving economic resources. He highlighted that universities have a crucial role in providing the knowledge and skills needed to empower local communities. By collaborating with local governments, educational institutions can help create a more sustainable and inclusive economic environment.

The participants engaged in discussions on the current state of cultural and tourism development in Siak. They explored how local resources can be optimised to increase the attractiveness of the area as a tourist destination. Yogyakarta – 24/2/25 In order to encourage the study of Indonesian art archaeology as well as to participate in the field of inclusive education, the scientific division of the Javanese Language, Literature and Culture Student Association (HMJ Kamastawa) collaborates with Artefak Magazine, a publication of the Archaeology Undergraduate Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (FIB UGM). This collaboration resulted in the 2024 edition of Artifact Magazine which raised a theme entitled “Archaeology of Art.”

The magazine features a variety of interesting content, including a feature article, four scientific papers, six popular scientific papers, three opinions, and four essay photos. The presented material also varies from traditional to contemporary, so that the broad discussion can spark curiosity and open a deeper horizon about art archaeology.

The collaboration between two different academic programs—Javanese Language, Literature, and Culture, with Archaeology—is a joint effort to produce critical and in-depth studies of cultural objects.
