Friday, March 8, 2024 – Institut Français Indonésie (IFI-LIP) Yogyakarta held a round table discussion entitled Gender-based violence in a digital society as a form of international women’s day celebration. IFI invited Wening Udasmoro (lecturer of bachelor of french language and literature) and Ratna Noviani (lecturer of master of cultural and media studies) from Universitas Gadjah Mada. In addition, IFI also invited Marie Nastorg (PhD student in droit de la non-discrimination) from the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers online. The discussion was held in the IFI auditorium, with François Dabin as the moderator. The round table discussion was attended by around 105 participants. The number of participants was certainly influenced by the interesting and important theme of the discussion, namely online gender-based violence or online GBV. 

This discussion was spoken in English, and it was an action to support the Sustainable Development Goals, the goal of quality education and gender equality. What was conveyed by all the speakers proved the action. First, according to Nastorg, as the first speaker to present her argument, she stated that online GBV often occurs in higher education and labor environments, and most forms of violence are discrimination of women’s roles in these two spheres. Wening went on to say that cases of online GBV in higher education tend to be underreported because of the difficulty of reporting the case, even though regulations related to it already exist. Finally, Ratna expressed her opinion that the prevention and handling of online GBV requires collective awareness from the victim’s environment and the digital environment. 

This round table discussion concluded that it is important for the community to raise awareness of the vulnerability of online GBV in an era which is dominated by social media users. The hope of all speakers is that the discussion can inspire the audience to become wise while using social media, and be able to teach the same thing to others.

Tuesday, May 28, 2024 – Students from the Faculty of Humanities currently on a Student Internship program at Buku Mojok publishing paid a visit to the Offset printing factory. The factory is one of the printing houses used by Buku Mojok to print its books. During the visit, they were introduced to the machines used to print books and the stages it is used in printing. This visit is in line with SDGs number 9, namely Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.

The visit began at 2:30 pm with an explanation of printing using plates inside of the machine. Then, interns were invited to see the machines used such as paper folding machines, cutting machines, and binding machines for paper sheets to become books. In addition, interns also received explanations related to the machines used, for example the difference between color printing machines and one-color printing machines.

Sunday, 10th March 2024 – Students of the Faculty of Cultural Science, currently in an internship program at Buku Mojok publishing company, became the moderator for Festival Penulis Perempuan to celebrate International Women’s day. The event, initiated by Buku Mojok, was held in three days on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of March at Akademi Bahagia. On the lasy day of the event, Buku Mojok invited Ranting Mangga to lead the journaling workshop and Isnaniar to lead the meditation workshop. This event is in line with the 5th SDGs, gender equality.

The event started at 1PM with the journaling workshop by Ranting Mangga. The participants was encouraged to write and paste scraps paper pieces in their journal as they like. After that, the event was followed with the meditation workshop. Isnaniar invited the participants to meditate by walking on the grass around their meeting area. On this event, student interns also participated in the workshop and helped the staff from Buku Mojok to prepare the event.

PT AEON Indonesia, in collaboration with PT Sahabat Kota Wisata, planted trees at AEON Mall Living World Kota Wisata, Cibubur. This activity was part of a series of events organized for the opening of the AEON mall in mid-March. Tree planting by the AEON Group began in 1991 and is used as an activity to embody AEON’s core philosophy of corporate social responsibility towards nature and the community around the company’s location. 

Trees were planted in the courtyard of the shopping center, covering an area of one hectare. For this planting, PT AEON Indonesia used Syzygium Oleana (Photinia Red Robin), around 60 plants measuring 60 cm. Several PT AEON Indonesia executives, including Mr. Takahiro Osugi as President and CEO, also attended the event. In his interview, he said: “The aim of planting this tree is to enrich the lives of the residents of Kota Wisata Cibubur and the surrounding area. The trees that will be planted should contribute to improved air quality and a healthier environment.” 

Tree planting is therefore one of the efforts being made to protect the climate and currently polluted land. In the context of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this activity can be classified as a collaboration under points 13 (combating climate change) and 15 (protecting terrestrial flora and fauna).

PT AEON Indonesia officially opened a new branch at Puri Indah Mall, West Jakarta. This branch is specialized for the Health and Beauty line with a focus on selling health and beauty products, such as makeup, soap, hair care, skincare, medicines, and healthy foods. The store concept is independent, which means it is separate from supermarkets and delicas (food line) which are also owned by PT AEON Indonesia. 

The opening of AEON line Health and Beauty at Puri Indah Mall became the second time for this Japanese retail company. Before, the same concept was implemented at Lotte Mall Avenue, South Jakarta in February. Hopefully, by opening a store in the health and beauty sector, PT AEON Indonesia can more easily expand its market reach in Indonesia. 

The opening ceremony was carried out with a ribbon cutting by the head of the Health and Beauty department of PT AEON Indonesia, Yasutake Suzuki. In his interview, he explained the reason for the establishment of the store. “The high sales of beauty & health products in all AEON Store branches, as well as the emergence of new local & imported cosmetic brands since 2020, and the number of beauty product customers dominated by Gen Z & millennials are the main basis for AEON Health & Beauty to be present separately as an independent store from Supermarkets & Delica,” he said. 

The opening and concept carried by AEON Health and Beauty Care at Puri Indah Mall is in line with the values proclaimed in SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) point 8, namely decent work and economic growth. This is due to the addition of stores which will affect economic growth. In addition, job opportunities for Indonesians will increase as time goes by. Furthermore, PT AEON Indonesia will continue this concept in other cities in Indonesia until 2025.
