Poetry Reading Festival at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada

On Friday, February 23rd, 2024 and Monday, February 24th, 2024, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences held a Poetry Reading Festival as part of the 78th Anniversary of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences. Participants in this festival came from lecturers, staff, students and alumni who added to the excitement of this activity.

Not just reading poetry, the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets and Human Resources, Suray Agung Nugroho, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., also enlivened this event by singing a Korean song which was a silentsil witness to his journey to learn Korean Language. Interestingly, the committee also prepared door prizes for lucky participants.

This activity was further enlivened by the students’ performance who read their own poetry. This showed the unlimited creativity of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences students. Apart from that, this is proof that poetry can play an important role as a tool for expressing oneself, thoughts and feelings that may not be able to be conveyed verbally.

Linguistics Students Gathering and the KALINGGA Handover Ceremony 2024

Dr. Suhandano, Dr. Sailal Arimi, and Drs. Tatang Hariri along with Master of Linguistics students across generations, carried out a ‘Students Gathering’ as well as the ‘The KALINGGA Handover Ceremony 2024’ on Friday, 23 February 2024. In this activity, various discussions related to academic activity in the Master of Linguistics UGM took place actively, such as transparency of student assessments and holding a prayer room in the Soegondo building so that lectures took place more efficiently. On this occasion, Dr. Suhandano also said that there would be a new application related to assessment, namely ‘Sioba’. Furthermore, final semester assignments also need to provide options other than articles and there is also a need for thesis research mentoring by lecturers. It is hoped that through this activity students will be more motivated to publish journals and be big on writing their theses so they can complete it on time.

The system of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) embraced in September 2015 by the UN, the worldwide improvement motivation for the primary time alludes to culture. The benefits of keeping up and progressing culture are accomplished through socially educated and viable execution of advancement objectives. Thus, discussion forums between lecturers and students can be a good culture to support and improve the quality of the learning environment.

In this activity, the stewardship of KALINGGA for the next 1 year was also officially appointed by Dr. Suhandano, witnessed by the previous year’s KALINGGA Management and students from across generations who were present. In the next 1 year, KALINGGA is expected to become a forum that can accommodate the aspirations of Master of Linguistics students, support the growth of student achievement and innovation, including creating useful activities in the field of Linguistics and society.

NEW ACCREDITATION [EXCELLENT] OF ARCHAEOLOGY STUDY PROGRAM

SDGs 4: Quality Education

After receiving A Accreditation, the Archeology Study Program (Undergraduate Program) Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM received Excellent Accreditation status from BAN-PT. This Accreditation will be valid until 2027.

This good news was received by the Archeology Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada from BAN-PT which issued on the certificate number 5112/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.KP/S/XII/2023. This achievement marks the study program’s strong commitment to improve the quality of education and maintain high academic standards.

The accreditation process is an effort to assess the quality and excellence of a study program. Archeology Study Program has passed a series of rigorous evaluations by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Through this process, the study program succeeded in obtaining an “excellent” rating, confirming its position as one of the best Archeology Undergraduate Study Programs in Indonesia. It is hoped that this new accreditation achievement will open the door for the Archeology Study Program to be more active in international research and collaboration in the fields of education, research, and community service. By gaining wider support and recognition, this study program can become a center for archaeological research that has a positive impact on the development of science in the field and the preservation of cultural heritage.

This is the commitment of the Archeology Study Program to provide a relevant and quality curriculum, as well as facilities that support student development. Adequate archaeological laboratory facilities, reference rooms, research facilities and other adequate facilities are also determining factors for the superiority of this study program. In this way, students can develop their skills and knowledge well, both in archaeological theory and practice.

This success cannot be separated from the support of all parties, including alumni and stakeholders who always work side by side with the study program. Thank you for all the students’ participation in implementing the Tridharma. (Ln & Mht).

RETIREMENT PERIOD SEMINAR OF Prof. Dr. Ida Rochani Adi, S.U.

Prof. Dr. Ida Rochani Adi, S.U. was a Professor in the field of American Studies, Department of Intercultural Studies, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University. Before becoming a professor in this field from 1995 until now, she started his career as a lecturer in 1980 in the Master of Management study program for 15 years. Gadjah Mada University could be said to be a second home for her. How could it not be, she has been part of this university since taking undergraduate studies from 1976 to 1980 majoring in English. From 1985 to 1987, she continued her studies in a master’s program in American studies. Then from 2000 to 2003, he took his doctoral program at Gadjah Mada University. Because of all this, she received the UGM 25 Years of Loyalty award two years in a row, in 2007 and 2008.

Time flies so fast. Now she is at the end of his service and entering her retirement period. To appreciate her services and provide memorable memories, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences team consisting of lecturers, staff, alumni and students prepared special events and offerings as a form of love and gratitude. The event was presented in the form of a seminar on Monday, February 19 2024 at the Soegondo Building Auditorium, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Gadjah Mada University. At this event, her work in the form of a book she wrote was dissected and became a souvenir for everyone who attended. She also received song offerings, greetings and gifts from his colleagues. In her speech, she felt very grateful and did not expect that she would get so much love from the people around him.

SDGs 4: Quality Education

Wednesday, February 21, 2024, marked an unforgettable day for 140 graduates of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), where they proudly received their new titles as Bachelor’s degree. The event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, S.Sos., M.Si, the Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources, Suray Agung Nugroho, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., and representatives from each department and study program within the Faculty of Cultural Sciences.

In this graduation period, Mutiara Cantikan, a student of the Cultural Anthropology Study Program, achieved the highest GPA of 3.99, followed by Garin Arivian Muhammad with a GPA of 3.96 from the Arabic Literature Study Program.

The event began with a welcoming speech from Prof. Dr. Setiadi, S.Sos, M.Si. He also gave some advice on the importance of considering the past as a source of learning and emphasized the need to look forward. The first step, he mentioned, is to finish the things in front of us. This graduation ceremony signifies the success from the efforts in the previous years. The program continued with an entertaining performance of the Būchaechum dance by students from the Korean Language and Culture Study Program, who are part of the Dōngari Student Activity Unit. The ceremony was closed with a prayer led by Hamdan, S.S., M.A.
