Signing Agreement on Double Degree Program – A Collaboration with Leiden University

On Wednesday, May 10th, 2023, the representatives of Leiden University visited the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM to sign the agreement document of the double degree program, which is a new program between the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM, the Faculty of Humanities, Leiden University, and the International Institute for Asian Studies, Leiden University. This program is the first collaboration that happened to the Department of Archaeology in Indonesia. 

This visit was opened with an opening speech by Dr. Mimi Savitri, M.A., as the Vice Dean of Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Alumni, and by Phillipe Peycam, the representative of Leiden University. This event was also attended by representatives from the Department of Anthropology, Archaeology, Linguistics, and History, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM.

Public Lecture “Social Media, Media, and Urban Transformation in the Context of Over Tourism”

“Tourism is not a simple thing, but it is a complex phenomenon that needs many coordinations,” – Dr. Minkyung Park 

In accordance with that quotation by Dr. Minkyung, tourism needs much support from several parties to run sustainably. Therefore, the participation of scholars who understand how tourism should be developed and managed is necessary. A public lecture entitled “Social Media, Media, and Urban Transformation in the Context of Over Tourism”, is expected to give more insight to the undergraduate students of the Tourism Study Program of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM, and other participants as well.

This public lecture was held offline on Thursday, May 4th, 2023 on the 2nd floor (Multimedia Room), of the Margono Building and was held online by Zoom Meeting at 10:00 – 11:30 Western Indonesian Time (GMT+7). Dr. Minkyung Park, (Associate Professor, Tourism and Events Management, College of Education and Human Development. George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia dan Fulbright U.S. Scholar, Graduate School of International Tourism and Tourism Research Institute, Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea), was the main speaker of this public lecture moderated by Dr. Wiwik Sushartami, a lecturer of the Tourism Study Program.

Dr. Mingkyung delivered the material regarding over tourism phenomenon with her study case in Ihwa Village, Seoul, Republic of South Korea. All participants, both online and offline, were very enthusiastic and interested in the material which could be seen by their active participation in asking questions and giving comments during the event. Interestingly, the questions that had been asked by the participants were the things that will be her subject of research in the future. She also gave merchandise from Mason University to participants who were actively participating as an appreciation.

On Wednesday, May 2nd, 2023, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada held a post-event of Eid Al-Fitr called “Silaturahim Syawalan” which was attended by the big family of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM. This event aimed to renew and replenish bonds with other relatives and friends of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM. It was continued with an opening speech by the Master of Ceremony and the Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, S.Sos., M.Si., This event was followed by door prizes distribution for the participants and lunch together. 

Public Lecture: What It Means to Be an Irish Writer

Tuesday, November 1st, 2022, the English Department, Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM held a public lecture entitled “What It Means to Be an Irish Writer”. This event took place on the 7th floor of the Soegondo Building. It was moderated by an Irish writer named Audrey Magee, who is the author of “The Colony”. This event also presented Muh. Arif Rokhman, Ph.D., who is the senior lecturer of the English Department, and H. E. Pádraig Francis, who is the Irish Ambassador to Indonesia.

The workshop about Journal Hunting Technicals and Introduction to the Online Journal System was done smoothly. This agenda continues the Online Workshop Series entitled “Training on Reference Application Using and Introduction to the Online Journal System for Students of Faculty Cultural Sciences, UGM”.
