Empowering Future Leaders with Leadership School for UGM Student Organization Officers

n Sunday, May 19, 2024, the Directorate of Students Affairs UGM held an activity to develop and empower the management of student organizations of Universitas Gadjah Mada through a series of two-day activities, namely the “Leadership School of UGM Student Organization Management”. The leadership school, which was held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 and Sunday, May 19, 2024, provided an opportunity for representatives of organization administrators to gain knowledge on how to become a leader as a student and proper communication and governance of student organizations. The two-day event was held at Auditorium Mandiri 4th floor, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM.

On the second day, Sunday, a student of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM representing the Gadjah Mada Debating Society UGM, I Putu Adhimas Radiansyah Aryawan, participated in the Leadership School activities which began with the initial material, namely Event Management and Sponsorship by the two speakers, Bambang Paningron and Berchman Heroe. In this material session, both speakers explained the importance of structured and planned event management, because some of the successful events began with careful and thorough planning. In the next presentation session, the Code of Student Activities was presented by Mrs. Desi Yulianti, S.E., M.Acc., Head of Subdirectorate of Student Organizations, Facilities, and Welfare, together with Mr. Mugiyarto, S.IP., Coordinator of Student Organizations and Activities, Directorate of Student Affairs UGM. This was followed by a session on Innovation, Creativity, and Curriculum Development and a closing session on SME Internal Quality Audit.

At the end of the event, the participants were given a group quiz to answer ten questions about leadership, organizations, and UGM official institutions. As a representative of the organization, Radiansyah hoped that the Leadership School would be a place of knowledge and a new beginning for student organizations and leaders who are the originators of innovation and creativity.

Learning the Ins and Outs of Administration and Bureaucracy through the UGM Student Organization Administration Workshop 2024

On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the UGM Directorate of Student Affairs held the UGM Student Organization Administration Workshop 2024 aimed at all Faculty / School Student Institutions, Student Communities, and Student Activity Units (UKM) at Universitas Gadjah Mada UGM to be given material on student organization administration. This activity was held in Multimedia Room 1 3rd Floor, UGM Main Office, inviting a number of student affairs resource persons to provide a number of material topics. Topics discussed included correspondence, information technology services, and organizational administration management.

In this activity, one of the students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM who represented the Gadjah Mada Debating Society UGM Student Activity Unit, I Putu Adhimas Radiansyah Aryawan, as Secretary, attended the workshop agenda which began with a speech by the Head of the Subdirectorate of Organization, Facilities, and Student Welfare, Mrs. Desi Yulianti, S.E., M.Acc.. Then, it was continued with correspondence material and correspondence script in accordance with applicable language and structure rules. On the topic of this material, representatives of student organizations were given practical examples interactively through reviews of examples of correspondence scripts of several student organizations by Mrs. Martindah Hanurani Budi Sukmarhayu, S.Pd.. Followed by IT services and information systems by Aziz Hendra Atmaja, S.Kom., from the UGM Information Technology Directorate, discussing information technology services such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Microsoft 365, and others that can support the administrative work of student organizations.

After the break session, the last material agenda was the Administration of Student Organizations presented by Ahmad Yuana Putra, S.Si., Staff of the Directorate of Student Affairs UGM, who is also a former administrator of the UGM UKM Communication Forum (FORKOM) and former Chairman of BEM Biology UGM. In this agenda, Mas Yuana shared his memorable experiences about the importance of managing well-documented organizational administration when he was an active UGM student who had been involved in various committees and organizations. After the experience sharing session, the activity began to end with a random group quiz session by answering 10 quiz questions correctly.

Through the administrative workshop activities held, it is hoped that the organization administrators can understand the workflow and orderly in working on appropriate organizational files and administration and students are also closer to the UGM Directorate of Student Affairs from various facilities and infrastructure that have been provided to support student organizations.

Excavation of Kedaton Temple Pond Sector in Murajambi Area by BPK V Jambi

A series of archaeological activities in the Muarajambi Cultural Heritage Area in the form of archaeological excavation of the dried up canal body. This excavation was carried out in the Kedaton Temple Pond Sector on April 18-23, 2024.

The Cultural Preservation Center (BPK) V Jambi Province as the organizer of the activity invited the author to become an Archaeological Expert in charge of providing some considerations in the implementation of excavation and handling of findings. This activity also involved several staff from BPK V and the local community. Until this assignment was completed, excavation activities in the field were still being carried out.

Upgrading and Bonding Activities of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Student Senate 2024

On Thursday, May 23, 2024, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Student Senate held an internal Upgrading and Bonding activity aimed at strengthening relationships between fellow administrators and students who are part of the management of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Student Senate. The activity carried out at the beginning of this management is expected to synchronize the performance of the management based on solidarity and togetherness for the implementation of management for one period. The event was held in Room A201, Siti Baroroh Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM.

The event began with an opening by Aisyah Muthmainnah Alamsyah, as Chairperson of the Student Senate for the 2024/2025 Period, with the presentation of information about the things that need to be done by the Student Senate of FIB UGM during one period as well as the rules that apply binding for each board. The presentation of information through presentations was then continued with a sharing session that presented the Chairman of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Student Senate 2023/2024, I Putu Adhimas Radiansyah Aryawan and the Honorary Board of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Student Senate 2023/2024, Ajeng Purwaniaratih Puspitaningrum. In the opportunity to share experiences, the two former administrators of the Faculty of Arts UGM Student Senate emphasized the importance of thorough knowledge of the functions and work of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Student Senate as a legislative body that oversees the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Student Executive Board (LEM). They also mentioned the importance of communication and strengthening relationships not only with LEM FIB UGM, but also with Semi-Autonomous Bodies (BSO) and Department Student Associations (HMJ) in the faculty environment.

After the experience sharing session was over, the activity continued with a joint play session conducted by the entire committee to enliven the activity. With this fun interactive play session, the administrators can strengthen the sense of equality needed to support optimal organizational performance.

Kick-Off Microcredential Development for University Leaders through UGM Online

Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM participated in a webinar on the Kick-Off of Micro Credential Development for University Leaders through UGM Online organized by the Directorate of Academic Studies and Innovation, Universitas Gadjah Mada. This activity aims to introduce the term Micro Credential which is a certificate or recognition given to individuals after completing a course or learning module that focuses on certain competencies or skills. In conjunction with the learning management system portal through UGM Online, to form a new educational ecosystem to support continuing education and lifelong learning for students and alumni by obtaining online learning resources. Microcredentials that are delivered through the types of online learning classes offered are usually short in duration and highly focused. They are designed to enhance certain skills or master specific competencies to the point of recognition for learning credits.

Microcredentials are divided into six different classes, namely:

  • Technical Skills Class
  • Professional Development Class
  • Soft Skills Class
  • Compliance and Regulatory Class
  • Entrepreneurship Class
  • Industry Specific Classes

Each class is designed with a specific focus to develop different skills. This specific skill development is able to support each individual to deepen their knowledge and insight in a specific focus for career advancement and improve individual competence. Module or course development of micro credentialing modules is developed from courses that are then packaged and reproduced according to the principles of micro credentialing. Lecturers can develop micro credential modules from their expertise, which has strategic value in the community/market to be accessed widely and massively. The module may be different from the material in the course and what is taught to students.
