Yogyakarta, 27/2/2025 – In a meaningful celebration of community and respect, the Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a pilgrimage and anjangsana on Thursday, 27 February 2025, as part of its 79th Anniversary. The event took place at Sawitsari Cemetery, where lecturers and education staff gathered to honour the legacy of their predecessors.

The pilgrimage began in the morning, with participants arriving at the cemetery to pay their respects to the founders and influential figures of FIB. Among those honoured was the late R. Soegondo, whose name is enshrined in the FIB building. This act of respect not only recognises the contributions of these individuals, but also strengthens the sense of community within the faculty.

After the pilgrimage, the participants proceeded to the next part of the event: anjangsana to six retired FIB UGM officers. This activity aimed to strengthen the bonds of friendship and solidarity between active and retired faculty members. It is important to maintain these relationships, as they contribute to a mutually supportive academic community. During the visit, the retirees shared their experiences, providing valuable lessons for the younger generation. Discussions were lively, filled with laughter and nostalgia, as stories of the past were retold. This exchange of knowledge is crucial to building a sense of continuity and attachment within the FIB community. The following retirees were visited:

Oration & Public Lecture on Cultural Diplomacy and Peace: ‘Towards Eight Decades of Building World Civilisation’

Yogyakarta, 24/2/2025 – In the series of anniversary of Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), a scientific oration and public lecture titled ‘Welcoming Eight Decades of Work to Build World Civilisation’ was held on 24 February 2025. The event took place at Soegondo Auditorium, gathering academics, students, and culture lovers to discuss the important role of education in building peace and resolving conflicts.

The event began with a speech from the Vice Rector for Education and Teaching, Prof. Dr Wening Udasmoro, S.S., M.Hum., DEA. In her speech, she emphasised the importance of education as a tool for conflict resolution and cultural diplomacy as she did in her researches. After the speech, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr Setiadi, M.Si., took the stage to explain the Faculty’s role in the humanities. He pointed out that the humanities play an important role in shaping a more peaceful society by promoting critical thinking and empathy among students.

The highlight of the event was a scientific oration delivered by Dr (H.C) Drs. H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, a leading figure in Indonesian politics and diplomacy. In his speech, he discussed the historical context of cultural diplomacy and its impact on peacebuilding efforts. He argued that understanding cultural differences is crucial in resolving conflicts and that education plays an important role in this process.

The session was followed by an engaging discussion involving participants from various backgrounds, including students, faculty members, and cultural practitioners. Family Day to celebrate the Faculty’s 79th anniversary

Yogyakarta, 22 February 2025 – Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a festive Family Day event as part of its 79th Anniversary celebrations. The event aimed to strengthen the spirit of togetherness among faculty members, students, and their families, while promoting health and well-being, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to affordable medicines and health for all.

The day began with an invigorating ‘health walk’, which attracted participants of all ages. Families gather early in the morning, ready to enjoy the beauty of the campus neighbourhood while getting some physical activity. The initiative not only encouraged healthy lifestyles but also emphasised the importance of affordable health resources, including medicines, which are crucial for maintaining well-being.

After the healthy walk, participants joined in a lively ‘gymnastics’ session led by professional instructors. The exercise was designed to be inclusive, allowing everyone to participate regardless of their fitness level. The activity highlighted the importance of regular physical activity in preventing health problems and promoting healthy communities, which are key aspects of the SDGs.

Entertainment was provided by ‘Karawitan Dharma Wanita FIB’ and ‘Sastra Oebah,’ which featured traditional music and dance performances. These cultural performances not only entertain the audience but also strengthen the faculty’s cultural identity and promote appreciation of local arts. This kind of cultural engagement is essential for community cohesion and well-being.

In addition to the entertainment, the event also featured a health check booth from POSBINDU, where participants could receive free health checks. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular health check-ups and access to affordable healthcare, which are essential components of the SDGs. The presence of medical personnel ensured that participants could receive valuable information on maintaining their health.

Children were not left out of the festivities either, as colouring and drawing competitions were held for them. These activities encourage creativity and provide a platform for young talents to express themselves. The competition also built a sense of community among families, as parents cheered for their children and engaged in friendly conversations with each other.

As time went on, door prizes were distributed to lucky participants, adding an element of excitement to the event. In addition, awards for the volleyball and badminton competitions held earlier were also handed out. These sports activities not only promote physical fitness but also encourage co-operation and camaraderie among faculty members and students.

The Family Day event closed with a sense of achievement and happiness among all participants. The event successfully brought the FIB community together, reinforcing the values of health, culture, and collaboration. The Faculty’s 79th Anniversary celebration is not only a reflection of its academic achievements but also a commitment to building a healthy and inclusive environment for all.

Blood Donation Series of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences’s 79th Anniversary

Yogyakarta, 19/2/2025 – On 19 February 2025, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) celebrated its 79th anniversary by holding a meaningful blood donation event at Soegondo Building, located on the first floor. This initiative not only commemorates the faculty’s long history, but also aims to contribute to the health and well-being of society, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to health and well-being.

The blood donation event attracted many participants, including students, lecturers, and education staff from the Faculty. All donors are required to fulfil certain health qualifications to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the blood donation process. This requirement is very important, as it emphasises the importance of biomedical standards in health-related activities.

The event was organised in collaboration with Palang Merah Indonesia, which provided medical professionals and equipment to facilitate the donation process. The presence of trained personnel ensured that the event adhered to biomedical safety protocols, making it a safe environment for all participants.

Participants expressed their enthusiasm for the event, with many saying that they felt fulfilled to be able to contribute to a worthy cause. The event also served as an educational platform, where participants could learn about the importance of blood donation and its impact on public health. Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Celebrates 79th Anniversary with Badminton Tournament

79th Anniversary of Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGMHEADLINES Monday, 10 February 2025

Yogyakarta, 8/2/2025 –The spirit of togetherness and sportsmanship colored the badminton tournament held by the Faculty of Cultural Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the Lembah Sports Building of Universitas Gadjah Mada. The event, which is part of the Faculty’s 79th Anniversary celebration series, was lively with active participation from the entire academic community.

The organization of this tournament is not only held to compete, but also a moment to strengthen the relationship between the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM Academic Community. High enthusiasm can be seen from the participation of six teams competing, namely the Red Team, White Team, Yellow Team, Blue Team, Green Team, and Orange Team, each of which fielded six players consisting of several parties, namely men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

Since morning, the area of the Lembah Sports Building of Universitas Gadjah Mada has been filled with participants and supporters from various teams. Before the match began, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Setiadi, S.Sos., M.Si., gave a warm welcome to all academicians present. The activity continued by warming up and following the drawing procession to determine the first ball. The cheers and applause of the audience echoed in the match area, creating an atmosphere full of enthusiasm and kinship.

Entering the final, the match between Team Blue and Team White was fierce for first place. Both teams played their best, entertaining the audience with spectacular actions on the court. After a thrilling match, the Blue Team finally won the title by winning the first, second, and third men’s doubles matches.

The tournament was closed with a group photo between the Blue Team, White Team, and Yellow Team who won the first, second, and third place. The badminton tournament organized by FIB UGM is proof that sports can be an effective medium to build togetherness and develop the potential of the academic community outside the academic field.
