Condolences on the Death of Prof. Dr. Kodiran, M.A.

The Faculty of Cultural Sciences of Universitas Gadjah Mada expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Prof. Dr. Kodiran, M.A., Professor of Anthropology. He passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 12.45 at the age of 85.

During his lifetime, Prof. Kodiran was known as a friendly, patient figure, and always created a comfortable atmosphere, both in the academic and work environment. His determination and dedication in developing the scientific field of anthropology became a role model for colleagues and students.

Born in Semarang, Central Java, on August 15, 1939, Prof. Kodiran began his career as an educator at Gadjah Mada University in 1967. In 1999, he obtained the title of Professor, which was then officially confirmed at the University Open Meeting on June 3, 2000. During his service, he received the 25-Year Loyalty Award from UGM in 1992, as a form of appreciation for his outstanding dedication and contribution.

The departure of Prof. Dr. Kodiran left a deep sorrow for the Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM, especially the Anthropology Study Program, which greatly lost a diligent scientist and a persistent educator. May the deceased get the best place by His side and the entire family left behind be given strength and fortitude.

Institut Teknologi Sumatera Visits FIB UGM to Benchmark Tourism Study Program

On Thursday, December 5, 2024, Faculty of Cultural Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada (FIB UGM) received a visit from Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) in order to benchmark the Tourism Study Program. The meeting took place at Soegondo Building, FIB UGM, and was attended by representatives of lecturers and students from both institutions.

This visit aims to deepen ITERA’s understanding of the management of the Tourism Study Program. During the discussion, representatives from the Tourism Study Program of FIB UGM explained their curriculum structure, including the number of credits and courses offered in each semester. ITERA got a detailed description of the learning patterns and various best practices applied at FIB UGM.

In addition, the discussion also covered the challenges faced in running the study program, such as curriculum development, implementation of field practice, and management of human resources and infrastructure. Both institutions exchanged ideas to overcome these obstacles, and discussed opportunities for future collaboration.

This activity is expected to provide inspiration for Institut Teknologi Sumatera in managing similar study programs, as well as strengthening the collaborative relationship between the two institutions in supporting the advancement of tourism education in Indonesia.

Yogyakarta, 21st of November 2024 – In the spirit of sharing happiness and social care, Kalingga (Keluarga Linguistik Gadjah Mada) Aksosmas (Social Action & Society) division is proud to report the success of the Happy Friday program. Through this program, the donations collected have been distributed to the brothers and sisters at Yayasan Sayap Ibu DIY Branch, located at Jl. Rajawali No. 3, Pringwulung, Condongcatur, Sleman, Yogyakarta.

The donations that have been received and distributed are:

  1. 52 clothes (shirts and pants)
  2. 1 shoulder bag
  3. Food packages, converted from cash received, including pampers, milk, baby food, snacks, and eggs.

Kalingga would like to thank all those who have supported this program through donations and encouragement. Without the contributions of the Kalinggaes, this program would not have been possible.

“We hope that this assistance can bring benefits and happiness to those in need,” said a representative of Kalingga Aksosmas Branch.

With the success of this program, Kalingga continues to be committed to making social activities an important part of the community, bringing positive impacts to the surrounding community. Thank you for being part of this act of kindness!

POTMA FIB UGM Webinar: Together with Campus and Parents for Early Detection of Student Mental Health Disorders

Yogyakarta, November 23, 2024 – In an effort to support student mental health, the Association of Parents of Students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada (POTMA FIB UGM) held a webinar entitled “The Role of Campus and Parents in Early Detection and Management of Student Mental Health Disorders”. This webinar was held online through the Zoom platform, attended by hundreds of participants from among parents of FIB UGM students.

The event was opened with remarks from Prof. Dr. Setiadi, M.Si., Dean of FIB UGM, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between campus and parents in dealing with student mental health. Chairman of POTMA FIB UGM, Rian Seriritta, A.Md., also expressed his appreciation to the participants for their active role in this activity.

The webinar presented inspiring speakers:

  1. Diana Setiyawati, S.Psi., MHSc., PH.D., Psychologist, Head of Center for Public Mental Health UGM, who discussed the importance of early detection to prevent mental disorders from becoming more serious.
  2. Dr. Nur Saktiningrum, S.S., M.Hum, Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty, who outlined campus programs and services in supporting student mental health.
  3. Hannisa Arina Zahra, S.Psi, a mental health survivor and activist, who shared her personal experience and provided guidance for parents to be the best support for their children.

Guided by moderator Nugraheni Dwi Budiarti, S.Pt., M.Pd., the webinar was interactive, with a question and answer session that explored the strategic role of parents in recognizing the early signs of mental health disorders.

This event is expected to strengthen the synergy between parents and educational institutions in creating an environment that supports students’ mental well-being. The potential for further collaboration was also suggested by several participants to increase the positive impact of this initiative. With the success of this webinar, FIB UGM and POTMA continue to be committed to supporting student mental health in order to create a resilient and productive young generation.
