English Studies Program UGM Achieves Global Recognition in QS World University Rankings 2025

Yogyakarta, 2/5/2025 – English Studies Program UGM has received a remarkable achievement by being ranked globally in the 151-200 position for QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 in English Literature and Linguistics. This puts the English Studies Program UGM as the first-ranked program in Indonesia for this subject. This achievement reflects the dedication of faculty members, students, and alumni of the English Studies Program UGM who have contributed in the study of English Literature and Linguistics. 

The curriculum in the English Studies Program UGM is established to strengthen the students’ national and local values, while also preparing them to gain global experiences. This program has organized initiatives such as orientation events, cultural exchange opportunities, and collaboration with international institutions. The purpose of these initiatives is to aid the students developing their talents and gaining international exposure.

This recognition sparks civitas academica at English Studies Program UGM to continue their dedication in strengthening the global presence of the program. English Studies Program UGM is committed to expand its collaboration and update the curriculum in order to create the most optimal learning environment for the students.

English Days 2024: Costume Charm at Faculty of Cultural Sciences UGM

Yogyakarta, November 1, 2024 – English Days 2024 at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada became a colorful and festive event, with the theme “A Step Into The Centre Stage”. With this theme, English Days invites participants to explore the journey of ambition, success, and the struggle to maintain identity in the public spotlight. The event took place from October 29 to November 1, 2024, presenting a series of events ranging from exhibitions, costumes, to theater.

One of the highlights of the event is the Costume Part, held on October 30, 2024. Taking inspiration from the Art Deco era and combining it with a touch of horror glamor, participants came in droves in a variety of interesting costumes. From characters such as Minions, Harry Potter, and Wednesday, to other iconic figures that combined humorous and spooky elements.

The costume competition also challenged participants to win awards in various categories, such as Best Couple Costume, Best In-Theme Costume, Scariest Costume, and Best Budget Costume. With burning enthusiasm, the students of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences competed for the best title and enlivened the Halloween party held in conjunction with this activity. English Days 2024 became a stage that proved the talent, creativity, and passion of the students, creating unforgettable moments for all participants.

[Appreciation Post] Lexicon Accreditation SINTA 3

Lexicon, a journal published by the English Studies Programme, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM, with the English Studies Association in Indonesia (ESAI), achieved national accreditation by Kementrian Pendidikan, Kebudayaan, Riset, dan Teknologi Republik Indonesia (Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology). Currently, Lexicon is accredited as a SINTA (Science and Technology Index) 3 journal.

Lexicon is a biannual journal that releases a new issue every April and October. Lexicon publishes articles in linguistics (focusing on pragmatics, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, and translation) and literature (focusing on interpreting short stories, novels, plays, and poems). Submission to the Lexicon journal is free and is always open throughout the year. The writers can be from any region of the globe, but submission is strictly restricted to articles written in English.
