The Family of Anthropology Students (KEMANT) is a student organization for students of the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM. This organization has been active at the FCS since 30 September 1964. As befitting such an organization, KEMANT has several goals, including (1) becoming a space for anthropology students to expand their creativity, (2) strengthening the bonds between anthropology students, and (3) facilitating procedural affairs of KEMANT members with the Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Administratively, KEMANT consists of six divisions which serve as vehicles for students’ skills and talents. These six divisions are: Media and Communications, Human Resources and Empowerment; Art; Entrepreneurship and Society; Sports; and External Affairs. The events held by each division, naturally, differ from one another.
1. Media and Communications.
This division is active in publication and journalism. Journalism, for the KEMANT, is not simply a place for criticism, but a vehicle for students to realize their hopes to understand social phenomena found in their nation. This division has established a semi-journal, Ranah, which belongs to anthropology students. Ranah is, of course, not only consumed internally, but also disseminated to the general public.
2. Human Resources and Empowerment.
As indicated by its name, this division works to develop the intellects of anthropology students by examining social phenomena in the surrounding environment. Among the activities held by this division are regular discussions regarding the results of research conducted by anthropology students.
3. Art.
The activities of this division are, naturally, not far removed from art-related ones. This division embraces anthropology students with an interest in art. Among its activities is Wayang Antro, a routine art performance held annually in commemoration of the Department of Anthropology’s anniversary.
4. Entrepreneurship and Society.
This division facilitates anthropology students who wish to contribute directly to society.
5. Sports.
This division is intended as a vehicle for sports-minded members. Its activities include futsal, basketball, climbing, etc.
6. External Affairs.
This division was formed as part of KEMANT to ensure harmonious relations with other department-level student associations at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences as well as with anthropology programs throughout Indonesia
