The Association of Korean-Language Students (HIMAHARA) of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM, is a student organization under the Student Body of the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada. HIMAHARA was formally established on 2 April 2004; the first leaders of HIMAHARA were appointed by Drs. Mudjeri, who was then serving as Deputy Dean III, that same day. At the time there were 18 Korean-language students, consisting of the first class of Korean Language students at the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, UGM (having started their studies in August 2003). HIMAHARA, despite having minimal organizational experience and lacking a secretariat, was able to fulfil its duties. HIMAHARA was formed as a space for the development of the creativity and potential of all students in the Korean-language Program, FCS UGM.
HIMAHARA consists of several work units, including a Dance Group for traditional Korean dances such as buchaechum and hansamchum as well as modern dances. Our musical group handles two types of music: traditional and modern. Traditional music is represented by the samulnori musical group, whereas modern music is represented by the HIMAHARA Band. Routine practice is held every week, so that students’ skills and creativity can continue to be developed.
